Louisiana Enhancing Aging with Dignity through Empowerment and Respect (LEADER) is dedicated to advancing culture change in eldercare within the state of Louisiana. LEADER supports consumer-driven and person-directed care in all settings -- from long-term nursing home care to short-term transitional care to community-based care.

LEADER believes that Louisiana elders deserve care that is life-affirming, satisfying, humane and meaningful. To advance these goals, LEADER supports collaboration among Louisiana’s eldercare stakeholders in the following ways:

Mission: To transform the culture of aging through education and advocacy by challenging society to promote the dignity and value of aging individuals and persons who care for them.

Values:
• Persons are more important than tasks;
• Spirit is as important as mind and body;
• Growth and development are unending life processes;
• All people are entitled to self-determination wherever they live;
• Relationships are the fundamental building block of a thriving community;
• The individuals engaged in the delivery of support are deserving of appreciation, honor and support by their peers and the larger community;
• Risk taking is a normal part of life.
(inspired by and adapted from the Pioneer Network)

Vision: To champion person-centered communities where aging adults and their care partners are valued, respected and honored.
